This section will provide details of the course and associated
projects related to my years at university (Oct 1999-June 2002), including my
third year dissertation.
First, a quick overview of my degree course which I took at the
School
of School of Cognitive and Computing Sciences (COGS) at the University of Sussex at Brighton,
England.
I decided to do a Computer Science with
Management Studies degree as I enjoyed computers since an early age and
was tempted by the management element to the degree. This would help me to
develop my management skills, including self-appraisal and formal report and
presentation compiliation, covering many areas of management, including
financial, marketing and company analysis.
The degree involved the various stages of software development
centred around the Java Programming Language (from JDK v1.1 thru to v1.3),
covering analysis, design, implementation and testing. The degree also involved
working with and developing databases based on the Oracle DBMS, and other
developing languages such as XML, CSS, JavaServlets and JavaApplets.
My final year dissertation project involved a web-based
consultancy MySQL/PHP database project for a consultancy company based in
Brighton. This provided me with the opportunity to learn a new programming
language and continue to develop my reporting skills.
The following are an outline of the course modules
which were part of my degree. Those which are linked provide examples of the
work compiled as part of the course.
