Did you know?

The Pacific Ocean is three times bigger than Asia, the biggest continent on Earth. It covers nearly one-third of the Earth's surface. Its widest part is about 1,770 km or 11,000 miles. That distance would take you halfway around the world.

Well, I've just visited Cyprus for a short business trip, and enjoyed it immensely.  Not only was the meeting pretty successful and extremely invaluable from a relationship and my own development perspective, I also managed to extend my list of "visited places" around SE Europe.

Doing pretty well of recent months, Serbia, Greece, Turkey and now Cyprus.  Wahoo!

Nicosia 'Wall-Divide' - The Green-LineIronically, it was a very symbolic time, as one of the infamous "Nicosia-dividing walls" and military checkpoints were being demolished on the Greek Cypriat site of the divide during the early hours of Friday, 9th March 2007 - whilst we were in the Country.

We actually visited the area on Friday evening to have dinner along the Ledra Street - just nearby where the wall was demolished, loated in the middle of the old city of Nicosia.

It was actually quite surreal as there was about 100-meters between the two dividing walls on either side of the "Green Line" - one side on the Greek-Cypriat of the Capital City and the other side on the Turkish section.  Abandoned and dilapidated buildings remain in the no-man zone, which were also reported to be "mined".  Hopefully one day, the link between the two sides of the Island will open up and the future of what appears to be a fabulous place becomes more stable...

Here are some BBC news articles outlining and explaining the symoblic nature of the day's events:

I've also uploaded a short clip I took on my MDA Camera, they took down the main wall, but immediately put up a temporary wall in its replace - probably due to the safety concerns of the derelict buildings within the "Green Line".
