Did you know?

The Pacific Ocean is three times bigger than Asia, the biggest continent on Earth. It covers nearly one-third of the Earth's surface. Its widest part is about 1,770 km or 11,000 miles. That distance would take you halfway around the world.

Sunday, 1st April:

Decided to be a tourist for the day, so after freshening up, I made my way along Vassilissis Konstantinou, to reach the Panathinaiko Stadium, the original Olympic Stadium, that was also used in the 2004 Olympic games hosting the Archery competition as well as the finishing site for the Marathon races.  An amazing stadium.  The only challenge was that the area was full of scouts, guides and loads of other “groups” of visitors, which made it near-impossible to really enjoy the site and sounds of the location.  So I moved on, after taking a few shots (that’s photographs!).

I strolled up through the National Gardens and took some photos of the Zapion Exhibition and Congress Hall, main Parliament building, the Grande Bretagne hotel, and the Syntagma Square.  As I was told that museums were free on a Sunday, I took in some of the museums along Stadiou Street.    I ended up spending some time visiting the National History Museum and Museum of the City of Athens, again very relaxing.

I was actually amazed how quiet the city was on a Sunday (apart from the Stadium location), it reminded me of a Sunday in the UK before the Sunday Trading laws were changed several years back – when everything was closed and shut-up.  This is exactly like Athens on a Sunday, absolutely deserted, and this was around 13:00 in the afternoon.

Anyway, wasn’t that hungry, as I had a late breakfast, so I just grabbed a SubWay (yes shame on me!), and relaxed back in the National Garden listening to my iPod and watching the world go by.

I relaxed back in the Executive Lounge for the afternoon, reading my book, went to the gym to “keep-fit”, and then decided that I wanted to venture around the hotel area to find a nice Greek café or restaurant to eat dinner.  I was advised to try a street called Aminta, which is where a number of Greek bars, cafés, restaurants were meant to be – acquainted by locals that is – which is what I was after.  I found a nice café-bar type of place, and had a nice Pasta dish (okay, not that Greek) accompanied with a Greek / Mediterranean salad.  That was it really, nothing to strenuous; after all I was just checking out the various places to visit for the longer time period I was out here!
