On 30 December 2002, the cast-iron structure of Brighton West Pier collapsed, leaving the main concert hall leaning perilously over the sea.
On 20th January 2003, the West Pier suffered another partial collapse, leaving the main concert hall now precariously supported by the remaining girder supports.
On 28th March 2003 the Pavilion was destroyed in an arson attack, and on 11th May 2003 the Concert Hall also was burnt out deliberately.
There was a further collapse of what was left of the Concert Hall structure on 23rd June 2004.
