Delphi is an archaeological site and a modern town in Greece on the south-western spur of Mount Parnassus in a valley of Phocis. Delphi was the site of the Delphic oracle, most important oracle in the classical Greek world, and it was a major site for the worship of the god Apollo.

There is a modern archaeological museum located at Delphi, where a number of artefacts are on display, including a miniature model of what it was envisaged Delphi used to look like.

These photos were of our journey to Kalambaka, where we were aiming to rest for the overnight stay, before venturing onwards to Meteora on 'Day-2'.

Kalambaka is a town located near to the the famous Meteora monasteries. The rocks of Meteora overlook Kalambaka. This was the location of our overnight stay during our two-day trip.

The Meteora (meaning "suspended rocks") is one of the largest and most important complex of monasteries in Greece, second only to Mount Athos. The monasteries are built on spectacular natural sandstone rock-pillars, at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Peneios river and Pindus Mountains, in central Greece. The Metéora is home to six active monasteries - we visited two of them.

Our first visit to the Meteroa monastery took us to the "Megalo Meteoro (Metamorphisis) Monastery". Megalo Meteoro is the best known of the Monasteries and is built upon the highest rock.

We travelled by the "Agia Triada" (or "Holy Trinity") monastery, which was made famous by being used for the 1981 James Bond film, "For Your Eyes Only". We didn't stop to visit this one though. We also passed another monastery, but I recall the name of that one!

Agios Stefanos is the only nun-convent in Meteora and has an unimpeded view of the plain towards Kalambaka. This was our second Monastery visit.

There is a modern monument at the site of the Battle of Thermopylae, called the "Leonidas Monument" in honour of the Spartan king.

It features a bronze statue of Leonidas. A sign, under the statue, reads simply: "Μολών λαβέ" ("Come and take them!"). The metope below depicts battle scenes. The two marble statues on the left and the right of the monument, represent respectively the river Eurotas and the mount Taygetos, hallmarks of Sparta.
