Bali, Jakarta and Hong Kong Holiday December 2006

These are our photos for our December 2006 Christmas holiday. It was a fun, relaxing and enjoyable (mostly at the same time!) break - and we even got to see places of Hong Kong that we previously haven't visited! We visited three key areas:

  • Bali for a long overdue break at a fantastic Beach resort ('twas very warm and sunny (puurfect!) - reaching 38-39C - that's around 100F!!!);
  • Jakarta, the Capital City of Indonesia, to see my Uncle's family (and several of my cousins and second cousins); and lastly
  • Hong Kong, to do some well overdue retail therapy and see my Aunt and family (more cousins), and some Family friends.

Upon our arrival in Hong Hong, we were scheduled to stay for about a day, so we took the opportunity to visit the Wong Tai Sin Temple, somewhere we have never previously visited.

Our second trip involved flying to Bali (via Jakarta) to the Westin Beach and Spa Resort on the Nusa Dua coastal area of the Island. We also went on a glass-bottom boat road to see the water's exotic fish and coral, as well as visit the infamous 'Turtle Island'. We visited the Pura Tanah Lot Temple and ate at the Menega Cafe in Jimbaran Bay - which was made famous as being the location of one of the Bali bombings in October 2005 - very sureal! We also ate the famous "Babi Guling" (that's Pork!), visited the Gunung Agung Volcano and attend the Balinese Theatre, where we had a thoroughly enjoyable dinner and performance!

We visited a Hawker-stall where we ate the classic "Surabi" Javanese Pancakes and then we taken to the Bandar Jakarta Restaurant - on the Ancol Bay.

We had our Christmas dinner in Hong Kong this year, slightly belated, as we were flying back to Hong Kong from Jakatta on Christmas day itself. So, instead, we had Christmas on Boxing Day!

We had it with some close family friends who were also in Hong Kong and also one of my mum's Sisters and her family. We went to the exquisite "Island Shangri-La" restaurant in Central, Hong Kong Island - a fantastic and interesting dining experience.

Our family friends then took us to visit One International Financial Centre (1IFC) where we saw a breathetaking view from the UBS floors, overlooking the rest of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon.

We then visited Nan Lian Garden in Diamond Hill, Kowloon, a park designed in the Tang Dynasty-style and adorned with special wooden structures, old and valuable trees and rocks - which formerlly opened to the public on 15th November 2006.

Hong Kong (Part 3) - Alan's HK Island Tour
Our good friend Alan Chun took my father and I on a tour of good ol' HK Island.

We visited an area called Skek-O, an area of HK Island that we've never visited before. We then went pass Causeway Bay, and then took a ferry to Cheung Chau Island. On the CC Island, we had tea at a very quaint and delightful tea house called 'Hometown Tea House'. We then visited the New Star Ferry Terminal in Central and finally took a tour of Central, before having dinner in the area. A very delightful and busy day touring HK Island!
