I do feel like a new boy once again – it is an errie but nice feeling all at the same time. I do like meeting new people (new faces, new names), and most importantly trying a new role. It has been a bad day at all, and a large number of introductions to boot. I just need to remember the right name and face at the right time – signs of my ol’ age, I guess 🙂
That said, I spent the last couple of hours of my afternoon trying to tie down a few loose ends with my old work role – unfortunately with work going down to the wire before I left, I knew I had to spend some time finishing this off.
Anyway, wasn’t such a bad day. Got my bearings around the area within Marina Bay, and also sorted all of the logistics including local office number, building pass, and amex security pass. All I need to resolve is a local SIM card for my work mobile and then I think the work aspects are sorted.
I will be a ‘hot-desker’ in the office, which means that I will find a spare desk and be based there each day, it’s actually a great opportunity to mingle with others, and get to know my work colleagues. The other benefit of a hot-desk is that it enforces you to have a “clear-desk” policy – which is brilliant “tidy” perception to create 🙂
The only drawback is that you have to bring everything with you in your laptop bag, which ends up being rather heavy and awkward. Hopefully, if I can obtain one of the lockers, some of which are portable so you can wheel them to your hot-desk location as well (a very Asian solution mindset!), this might at least enable me to keep some stuff at the office.
Now what is the best way to celebrate the success of Day-1, then a pint of the black stuff with a couple of work colleagues – very friendly bunch of people…and actually a very relaxing and enjoyable drink!
