Dinner @ Michelangelos Restaurant

Another evening, another meal.  Well one does have to eat, doesn’t one?

Where to eat, yes where exactly? Strong Amex brand promotion :)

We decided to go back to Pavilion Mall and choose a place at the outside area – ground-level.  This outside stretch of the mall is full of mid-to-fine dining restaurants – and seems to be a popular area of drinking and eating in the evenings having walked past a few times.  We ended up called Michelangelos a seemingly Italian looking restaurant.  It looked pretty nice, and had a fair number of tables inside.  I must say, I was set for a bit of a disappointment.

It’s a nice bustling place, the decor is very appealing, the service was generally okay though they aren’t very attentive or ‘keen to serve’ at times – and the food – well a mixed bag too really!!  I will explain why…

Beef Carpaccio - always a favourite of mine!
Beef Carpaccio – always a favourite of mine!

I choice the Beef Carpaccio for my starters – which was served perfectly, I’m almost a sucker for a nice Carpaccio – and it’s generally a nice, light and refreshing starter.

It always has a very pleasant flavour, especially the combination of the cool beef and the spicy warmth of the rocket, and generally is a nice sized portion to get you going into your meal.

Steak Tenderloin - bland and watered down sauce though!

I followed this with a Tenderlion Steak (cooked Medium) with Mash Potato and what was supposed to be red wine sauce. Tthe sauce was very bland and very unappealing, almost like it had been watered down – and the taste of the sauce was … well … what taste – that didn’t exist!  I was a bit disappointed and although the steak was cooked to my liking, the sauce did just ruin the dish.

With that result, we decided to give dessert a miss, and we finished the fine and asked for the bill.

It was worth a try, but overall a so-so experience.  I wouldn’t necessary recommend or come back myself in a hurry, though having said that I sometimes do give places the benefit of the doubt and give them a second go!
