I can then decided to continue on my tour around China Town and enjoyed the nice views around the place. One thing to note is that there are LOTS of temples, mosques and churches – throughout the town. Quite a few of them are located down Jalan Tokong (formerly Temple Street) on the west-side of China Town.
- Masjid Kampung Kling
- Another Chinese Temple – forgot the name of this one 🙁
I then headed to the south side of the river (to Dutch Square) and at the outer side of the Square down an alley way behind Christ Church – and noticed an area where bikes were parked up at which liked a compound. It was alongside the Police compound so I assumed these were either confiscated or evidence – either way they looked pretty run down 🙂
- Nice looking architecture!
- Bike Park – actually Compound!
- A Dirty Alley Way
- A Melaka School Bus
- The Central Police Station
My stroll then took me to the Ruins of the St Paul Church (built originally in 1521, and re-built in 1566) – located on the top of St Paul’s Hill. It has quite a good view of the lower part of Melaka.

I left this area to go on visit the coastal area of the Melaka Strait, so visited the Melaka Megamall – did some ‘window shopping’ – no room for purchases in my luggage though – ha! I then visited the Raya 1-3 streets, which was largely desserted at this time of the day – there seems to be many bars, karoke bars and restaurants around here – and a number of half-finished buildings (what looked like half-built hotels).

I walked towards the Holiday Inn – behind which was the Melaka Jetty. It wasn’t that exciting, and seemed to be an artifical area – as the sea is quite low around here – and it is mostly a ‘night spot’ with the various bars and restaurants/cafes on the jetty. Anyway, it was a good stroll.

I wanted to rest my poor little legs, so decided to head back towards the China Town area, I first passed some of the many museum and monuments around St Paul’s.

And then walked past a couple of infamous Chicken Rice Ball places – which had pretty long queues waiting to go in and eat some. I was told that these two places were the best in the area. I decided to forego them these time around, but will visit one of them when they are less-busy (it’s all to do with the timing – haha!)

I continued my trek around China Town, and noticed more Temples dotted all around the area (it was amazing to see such a number in such a small area), as well as other interesting things to photograph – like a couple of people shelling and dehusking – interesting things all around 🙂
