Broga – An Interesting Location

On the way back to Broga, we stopped off for a refreshing Ice Kacang, which is the Crushed Ice dessert – served on top of Red Beans, grass jelly, sweet corn, and palm seed.  Very nice, quite healthy and definitely refreshing!

Whilst we chilled and chatted, I noticed that we the Broga village was quite intriguing, and I was told that this whole area used to be a battle-ground where the British-backed rebels fought against the Japanese.   Broga is a small town that sits on the border of Selangor and Negri Sembilan in Malaysia. Broga takes its name from the River Broga which runs through the area. The name Broga is believed to be derived from Buragas, a mythical beast that lives in the forest.

I’ve been subsequently researching this place on google, and apparently.  Two interesting information aspects.  Firstly, there is a place called Bukit Broga, or Broga Hill, which is located in Semenyih (50 kilometres (31 mi) from Kuala Lumpur and approximately 33 kilometres (21 mi) from Seremban).  It is meant to be quite a view from the top – but we didn’t venture the climb this time around 🙂  Secondly, rumours also have it, that Broga was also used as a POW dwelling during WW2, whose inhabitants were massacred by the Imperial Japanese Army.  As it was a secluded area located within ruggage hills on all sides, it doesn’t surprise me if was actually the case.  An eerie past indeed!

Anyway, we enjoyed the visit, regardless of Broga’s history.
