Well you may remember this post where I mentioned about my Blackberry Curve 8520 being faulty. Luckily it was under warranty so O2 UK were being very accommodating to replace it for free. But with most things in life, it wasn’t that simple.
O2’s warranty only covers phones replaced within the UK, so I had a bit of a dilemma, how would I get my damaged phone to O2 and get the new one back to Singapore – ha! Well, the marvels of the Courier Mailing system – that’s how!
I first sent my phone back to my Director in the UK, advising him that O2 would send him the new phone that he would need to send to me. What I didn’t realise was that O2 had actually arranged for a deliver-and-collect instruction with the Courier, so the courier was not allowed to just deliver without collecting the damaged handset – as my Director advised. So I phoned O2 again and asked them what was going on, as I was actually out of the market and would have to wait for around 1-2 weeks if they wanted to follow the process to the letter. They then agreed that the process would not work in this exceptional situation, so agreed to send a new handset, but this time with a deliver-only with a return envelope provided. This worked better, especially as my hand-set was still flying its way back to the UK.
My new handset was received pretty quickly – it took about 4 days – so that’s not too bad at all. My damanged phone was then returned back to O2.
But that’s challenge one sorted. What I now need to do is wait for my unlock code from O2, and when I phoned them late last week, I was told it would take 10 business days, which was really strange, because last time I requested this (for my previous Blackberry), it was sent to me within 24 hours. Hmmm… depends who actions the request I guess! This was needed because I needed to put my local Corporate SingTel SIM card, to avoid extraordinary roaming charges on my UK mobile bill, and causing International calls for my colleagues in JAPA if they need to contact me.
Hopefully it will be resolved this week, but as I said, things are never straightforward – lol.
