Well it was a treat in the making…and second time lucky as well. This time I not only managed to successfully book a reservation but most importantly be available to attend the Sunday Brunch at Brasserie Les Saveurs @ the St Regis Singapore – and it certainly was a nice treat!
By reading the various reviews out there, it is meant to be one of the top (Champagne) brunches in Singapore (there are quite a few generic Brunches on offer), and it didn’t disappoint whatsoever. I almost had to losen the belt on my trousers (now that’s a true sign of a good meal – for me at least!) – it truly was a downright decadent and an elegant affair 🙂
We tried booking about 4 weeks ago, but I then decided to visit Cambodia, so we had to postpone the visit to St Regis. We tried to re-schedule it for the following week but the place had a private function so the Brasserie Les Saveurs was closed for the day, so I had to cancel the reservation as my mum was then going to visit HK. When she returned, we agreed to try again, to coincide with my Aunt and Cousin’s visit to Singapore. Not only that, but it was my Cousin’s Birthday a couple of weeks ago, and most importantly mine in a couple of weeks time, so what better way to celebrate then spending it at the St Regis at their delightful Champagne Brunch!!!
We met up at my apartment and started to walk down the short walk to the St Regis, walking along Orchard Road and Tanglin Road. We entered the St Regis lobby, and it certainly looked a very appealing hotel. We relaxed for a few minutes in the lobby, as we were about 10-15 minutes early, and the restaurant staff were still doing their prep, but we enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere in the lobby.
- Sisters relaxing…ready for the Brunch to start!
- The ceiling mirror…nice feature!
- Mum Relaxing (and she is very hungry!)
- Delightful Artwork in the Lobby
Just gone midday, we made our way to the restaurant reception and we were seated quite central to the room. We inspected the menu and were delightful on the choice on offer – and I had to gulp when I saw the price – but c’mon, it was my birthday treat for my Cousin and I.
- Don’t Worry, Aaron offered to pay with his Amex Card
- I better eat cheap for a few days now 🙂
- A Great Buffet and Menu-Selection Combo
The fish, European deli (Italian and Spanish Salami) and the selection of breads were to the left (as we entered the Brasserie) and the selection of colds and salad appetizers to the right – oh and most importantly the tantalising-looking desserts in the middle – easy to spot – haha! 🙂
- The Delicious Dessert Station
- The Mix Fruit Dessert Station
- The Cold Hors d’oeuvre Station
- The Cold Meat, Fresh Bread and Fish Stations
- Spanish Iberico Ham!
- The Fish Station
- The chefs cooking the Foie Gras and Lobster Hors d’oeuvre
As soon as you sit down, you get served the first (of what will be many) pours of the Champagne – I think this is going to get a bit messy 🙂
- Mum watching closely as they pour yet another glass for me! Ha!
- Happy with my Full-Glass of Champagne
You can then then start to view the various appetizers on offer at the various food stations – selecting the key ones that takes your fancy. Luckily I skipped brekkie, well one does have to maximise the benefits of this meal offering 🙂
- My Mix Starters
- Chislon’s Cold Meat Plate (and Gherkins!)
- Mum’s Fish Plate
- The ‘romantic’ table 🙂
What makes this particular buffet slightly different is that the Chefs also pass around offering some additional Hors d’oeuvres, which you can opt to accept or decline, as appropriate. The waiting staff then come around after about 1 hour to allow you to choose your choice of main course, we decided to go for the Angus Beef Tartar, Beef Rib-Eye, Pan-Seared Scallop and finally Wild Snapper. They then allowed us to continue our appetizers until we gave them the nod to serve the mains 🙂 Beautiful, just hope we remembered before we get too full – ha!
- The cold meat selection!
- Nice flower centre-piece – oh and delightful champagne!
- Chislon’s Fish Plate (well the first one!)
- Pan-Fried Foie Gras with Apple Puree and Apple Caramel Sauce
- The Fish Plate!
- Oyster with Shallot and Vinegar – DELICIOUS!
- Cute little Tabasco Bottles!
- Tasty Bread and Creamy Butter
- Champagne Brunch Galore!
We continued with a plentiful supply of Oysters, Tiger Prawns, Salamis, and Salads. After another helping, we asked for our main choices to be served, which the waiter advised us would take between 10-15 mintues – we then gave our stomachs a well-needed break and waited patiently, whilst we kept our throats lubricated with the Champagne 🙂 One of the chefs was making the rounds with a tray full of little Calamansi Sorbet glasses and another with with Lobster Bisque, so I did take the opportunity to take one of each to enjoy whilst we waited for our mains – both were very refreshing indeed, especially the Sorbet – it certainly cleansed the palate. Note: I know you all know what a Sorbet is, but even I had to Google the Calamansi bit! Apparently, it is a Southeast Asian citrus and is a cross between a mandarin and a kumquat. So now we both know what it is exactly! 🙂
- Calamansi Sorbet (Refreshing)
- The Lobster Bisque (delicious!)
- Our table in all of its glory…
- Ergh we did have a few Sorbets and Lobster Bisques 🙂
- Cheers and happy birthdays to us!
- Yummy oysters…!!
Most importantly, we also took the opportunity to continually keep our throats moist, helped by the generous Champagne Waiters, who kept topping up our flutes each time they ‘appeared’ to need a top-up (in my case, mine had a hole in the bottom, so had to have that extra top-up more than most – ha! 🙂 ).
- Is this glass half-full or half-empty?
- Hmmm…I think I need a top-up soon 🙂
- I asked whether I could help myself 🙂 ha!
Once the mains arrived, we tucked in. I must admit that I did enjoy the Hors d’oeuvres more than the main course, although I do emphasise that this was not because the mains weren’t appetizing, I just believe the Appetizer selection was far more pleasing to sample – there was just soooo much choice 🙂 Ha!!
- My Pan-Roasted Beef Rib-Eye
- Chislon’s Black Angus Beef Tartar
- My Aunt’s Pan-Seared Scallops
- Mum’s Pan-Seared Wild Snapper
I had to sample another Sorbet again (it really was that refreshing!), and then went to see the selection of desserts (well in more detail). I chose a Cheesecake, a Minestone of Fruits (that it what they called it!), Lemon Meringue, a little macaroon, and a stick of fresh fruit. WOW! That was a lot to eat at the end of a really enjoyable meal.
- My Dessert Selection
- Close up of my Lemon Meringue Dessert
- Chislon’s Selection of Fresh Fruit
- I couldn’t finish a delightful meal without a nice pot of Earl Gray 🙂
To finish, we had a “couple” more glasses of champagne (’tis a difficult life!) and then topped this off with some tea and coffee – mine was, of course, a nice pot of Earl Gray tea!
And the price, well you should have seen the menu which outlined the price, but to capture it again, it wa S$138++ for the non-alcoholic Brunch, or the Perrier-Jouet Grand Brut Brunch comes in at S$170++. A grand total of S$800.40 for the 4 of us! I don’t think it was that bad. BUT, I don’t think it’s a Brunch you would do every day, only for those special occasions, like birthdays 🙂
