Well one thing that you need to do in Ho Chi Minh City – eat eat eat – and there’s plenty of choice.
There are loads of street markets, where you can buy everything from liquor/spirits (yup I couldn’t believe that when I first saw it!) to meat and fruit & veg.
- Fruit Galore
- Rice Galore
- Banana Galore
- Booze Galore
- Fruit and Veg Market
- Bean Curd Galore (yuk!)
- Meat Market
The other thing you will see is the volume of ‘street’ food and drink stalls, with little kitchens, cookers and tables and chairs – it’s a funny sight, as you see them on most street corners!
- Street Kitchen
- Vietnamese Spring Roll
- Street Market on the Move
- Rice Snacks
- Some sort of Beans
- Wall’s Ice Cream on the Move
- Street Kitchen / Food Stall – one on every street!
I decided to go with the infamous Vietnamese Pho Bo (phở bò) – basically it’s vermicelli rice noodles served with Beef – and is DELICIOUS!!! The dish is usually served with Vietnamese basil, mint leaves, lime, bean sprouts, hoison and chilli sauce which are added to the soup. The first time I didn’t realise what to do, so left them on the side. But in the second place I went too, the waitress actually seemed to know that I didn’t have a clue, and actually did the mixing for me 🙂 How nice of her! The third time I had it, I knew what to do – only took the third attempt to get it right – lol!

- My Dinner for the Tomorrow (possibly) 🙂
KFC seems to have established itself here, but I didn’t see any McDonald’s in HCMC – how lucky they are!! BUT they have a local chain equivalent called Lotteria (which also has locations in South Korea and Japan).
- Worse-case there’s always a Burger option! 🙂
- …or good ol’ KFC – Vietnamese Style!:)
