On Saturday, we ventured around China Town after our Marina Bay Tour. It was a nice walk, and we built up quite an appetite. We were going to try a recommendation for dinner, called Sin Hoi Sai Eating House at 55 Tiong Bahru Road.
We were meeting up with one of Chislon’s friends so we met up with them at Outram Park MRT Station. We then walked down the Outram Park towards Tiong Bahru, until we were opposite the Link Hotel – and in front of us was the restaurant.
Chislon did the ordering and we waited patiently – but we knew it was going to be a pleasureable choice. That said, I think the waiting staff struggled with our requests and questions, as we asked about whether there was any Lager Offers (e.g. buy a bucket of 5 bottles etc), but they had no clue, and kept having to ask someone else to come to us for us to repeat the question again. Very amateurish in my opinion. Throughout the meal we asked for the ceiling fan to be turned on, more wet-towels to clean our fingers, and another beer – and none of these were clearly understood. A bit weird, I think the place has a very good atmosphere, but the service lets it down. The food was the highlight though, and it was quite busy and popular – which is good to see 🙂
Anyway, to the meal, we ordered Crab with Black Pepper Sauce, Thousand-Year Egg with Bean Curd (yuk!), Sweet and Sour Pork, some King Prawns – well not “King” Prawns as such, but the really large Jumbo Prawns variety (there were the largest prawns I’ve ever seen) and some vegetables.
- Some sort of festival carnival vehicle travelling by China Town
- An Interesting Moped 🙂
- Tiger Beer’s Galore
- Thousand Years Egg + Bean Curd (my favourite – ergh NOT!)
- Sweet and Sour (that’s me!)
- Yummy Black Bean Crab
- Crab and Vegetables
- Those large prawn things! 🙂
All in all a delicious meal, it is worth a visit but I would only recommend this place if they improved their service, which wasn’t that attentive at all.
