On the way back towards Kuala Lumpur, we did a short detour to visit Putrajaya, which is approximately 25km south of KL. PJ has ended up being the main Malaysian Government administrative centre of the Country. Most of the government offices originally in the Capital have moved out here now. Putrajaya City is situated next to another ‘new City development’, the Cyberjaya City – where all of the Multimedia and Blue Chip names are based – it was dubbed the Silicon Valley of Malaysia – not sure if it has lived up to the hype, or not?

- Bangunan Perdana Putra (PMs Residence)
- One of the Federal Buildings (they all look quite alike!)

- Even the Traffic Light looks Federal District-like
- Ministry of Finance
Anyway, you can tell it is a very much Government district, with pristine offices and landscapes, whilst there are long wide boulevards linking the various offices to the main highway. Even the traffic lights look ‘very government-like’.
There is also an impressive mosque based in Putrajaya, called Masjid Putra. We decided to take a quick look – though as per the Mosque dress-code, you have to cover up your shoulders and ensure that your legs are covered. They would provide ‘garments’ for those who didn’t meet this dress code, so you could actually see a humorous sight of blue throws everywhere 🙂
Looking back towards the Perdana Putra which is the building that houses the PM of Malaysia, it does definitely look like a nice building – at least from the outside. But what was quite weird is that the roundabout in front of the Perdana Putra is still under construction or renovation. You would have thought that they would have finished this first, wouldn’t you? There is a long boulevard leading from Perdana Putra for about 2kms in front towards the Putra International Convention Centre – very similar to the Mall in fron of Buckingham Palace in London. Coincidence? 🙂
