Indoor Rock Climbing (again) – What Fun!!

Another weekend, another session to chill and relax with chums. We decided to go for another indoor rock climbing episode, and I really enjoyed it the last time we went out.

This time, there was only a few of us, and I must admit I was shattered this time around, so I didn’t manage to attack many of the walls or routes this time, but I did 3 runs and reached the time each time, which was enjoyable.

I must get into a more regular routine, and maybe should sign up to a class – ‘cos it really is great fun 🙂

A pleasureable visit to the Gardens by the Bay

Well to fully utilise my annual pass, I decided to pay a visit to the Gardens by the Bay last Sunday – the newly opened (since October 2012 – still new to me!) Botanic Gardens just opposite Marina Bay Sands.

It is a pleasant location, and I must admit the timing was absolutely perfect, as the temporary Tulip display was ending on 20th May – so if I didn’t do it, it would have been a sad mistake. It’s kinda visiting a little bit of the Netherlands in Singapore – Europe in Asia – haha!

I decided to visit both the Flower Dome (where the Tulip display was) and the Cloud Dome (where there was an indoor waterfall display). Both were delightful, and definitely worth a visit.

The captivating part was definitely the Cautus and Tulip display (in the Flower Dome) – which was a very simply but delightful display, and for the Tulips, it was the glorious colours that made the display.

I wasn’t that impressed with the Cloud Dome personally, but it was more of an education display about the pressures on our global water supply and how precious water really is (remember those days from school?) – haha…

Either way, a very enjoyable early after session – a nice way to walk off my Sunday Roast – hehe!

Exercise and Sports can be Dangerous – that’s Official :)

Well the Futsal game on Sunday, 12th May started like most others…a casual but sweaty game with some great chums.

It was definitely more relaxing having had more people turned up – because we have played when we have had 3 a side and 4 a side – and these are pretty tough, but when we had 5 and then 6 a side it was a lot better.

The challenge is when you are the one in goal, you’ve got more guys to look out for.  This happened to me, and I had the most scary moments I have experienced for a while – a ball being shot directly at my face, with my inability to stop it.  BANG!

I felt the pain, I knew it was a bad one, but I didn’t know how bad, until I saw a bit of blood on my hand – as I was wearing glasses, it turned out that the ball had pushed the glasses into my face.  I knew I was going to get some lingering issues, and it certainly turned out to be an issue…I got a nice shiner, which came up after a day or two.  Ouch!

Rock Climbing – That Was Fun!

Last time I was in Singapore, I was invited to experience indoor rock-climbing with a couple of work-friends; I couldn’t find the time last time, so decided to venture this time around.

We went to the Onsight Indoor Climbing Gym at 100 Guillemard Road – it was a nice experience, and I just about remembered what we had to do. I managed to climb up 3 walls with relative ease, but the next 2 were tougher to achieve. My arms and legs just were zapped of the energy required to push or pull me up so I managed to do half-way on both before I decided to have a break.

But it was great fun, and I would certainly repeat this. I just need to do some weights and push-ups/sit-ups, to improve my upper body muscles 🙂

Easter Weekend – Cycling Mad

Well I was aiming to spend some time away for the Easter Break, but didn’t manage to book anywhere, as the air fares were ridculouosly high, so instead I decided to spend it in Singapore.

I wanted to enjoy the time, so decided to spend some quality time with some friends doing cycling around East Coast, drinking and eating 🙂 (Well that seems to be a usual weekend, at the moment – haha).

It was actually quite enjoyable and relaxing…and I am certainly getting fitter with all of this exercis malarkey 🙂

Gardens By the Bay – Very Relaxing

Well I’ve heard a lot of good feedback about the new Botanic Gardens by Marina Bay (Gardens by the Bay for short), so I was keen to pay a visit.

I finally got around to visit, via Marina Bay MRT and then to Bayfront MRT – which now links the red line with the circle line on the east side. You walk underneath Marina Bay Sands to the Gardens, and you can take a leisurely stroll (for free) in the outer gardens or pay to go into the two ‘cloud’ domes, which houses the ‘Forest’ and ‘Flower’ themed gardens (visits to this costs about $28 to visit both domes, or $20 for local residents / workers). The Skyway costs $5 and the Garden Cruiser is $5.

I decided to stay out in the free gardens this time around – which was also very enjoyable and relaxing, and decided to come back to visit the domes another time.

In fact, looking at the annual ticket price, I decided to buy one of these, as it only costs $68 which allows me to enter all parts of the attractions for free unlimited – so if I visit over 3 times, I have made up for the annual ticket cost – and I become a friend of the bay – to get our discount entitlements 🙂 Bonus!

Pub Lunch Plus Cycling Along East Coast Park

I decided to spend a day contemplating a few things in my head, so decided to leave my apartment and have a nice Sunday Roast – something that “feels like home”, whilst allowing me to watch the world go by and think things clearly in my head. With some recent challenges at work, I felt it was good to just have a bit of ‘me time’. Oh and 2 pints of Guinness helped too – haha!

After experiencing the East Coast Park cycle way during my secondment in 2011, I wanted to make it a more regular thing. It’s another nice way to keep fit, and also sweat the stress out of the system…and the scenery is quite nice too! 🙂

It costs something like $8, $12 or $14 dollars (for 1hr, 2hr or 3hr durations), so I decided to do a ride as far eastward I could get for 2 hours. It was perfect, because you actually go eastward and go along the cycle way until you reach the Changi area – and it’s just sooo relaxing and out of the busy city life, so you really just open your mind. I almost forgot about the time though, as what goes east, must go west – for a cycle loop – ha! Luckily I made it back, and it took just shy of 2 hours – perfect!

Very enjoyable…am keen to get a few others along too, as it is better with company!

Futsul Delight – 9am Sunday

What a way to spend a Sunday, playing some football (on the astroturf – so it is called Futsal) – with some great folks in the Cage just Mount Batten area. It was great fun, and I remembered to bring my footie stuff, which I forgot to bring along previously.

It was also good to sweat it out of the system, and try to keep fit. I definitely need to do more of the same, to get myself feeling fitter and more relaxed – and also get myself out and about.

I hope it turns out to be a regular event…just need to get my arse out of bed each Sunday – oh in-between going to Church!
