Go Green Segway Fun!

What do you get when you get a group of adults-turn-children in Sentosa and a Segway? Well definitely fun and entertainment – and plenty of laughs!

We went to Siloso beach in Sentosa for the initial training (yes all of that health and safety melarkey), but also an introduction on how to use a Segway – which was a first for me. It was actually pretty easy to get the controls, or linked to your centre of balance, you lean forward to lean forward, lean back to brake/stop, and then move your weight to your left or right leg to steer – pretty easy after you get use to it!

We then did a few puzzles: ranging from Segway scrabble, a memory game on the Segway, egg and spoon race (segway style) and then spot the mystery pieces…followed by a luge event, which was absolute speed funness, and then ended with beers and food – well all that hard work must end in some style.

It was a great session, definitely recommend the Segway and Luge, although both did seem quite a short event, but definitely good to ride both and enjoy the afternoon in the Singapore sunshine and humid heat!

Aquarium Team Build and Charity Philanthropy Event

Amex continues to focus on team builds and it coincided with a community philanthropy event, which focused on helping under-privileged enjoy life. On 29th November, we took a group of children to the Aquarium in Resorts World Sentosa (RWS).

You may recall that as part of a smaller team build, where my team visited the same venue in October – bringing together colleagues from Korea, Australia, Japan, HK Malaysia and, of course, Singapore to spend time together. But this division team-build and combined charity event was on larger scale and included children. The challenge was we (4 groups) took the responsibility of almost 50 children, 9 were assigned to our group, and I was assigned as team leader. They ranged from 6 years old to 16 years old – what a range indeed.

Throughout the event, I continued to keep tabs on the 9 heads and had to keep a watchful eye on which and every one of them, and tried to assign them to individuals so that I could spread my gaze overall. What a task it w, but it was certainly fun, albeit very stressful!

I do like these charity events and they certainly showcase our community spirit – and overall are certainly rewarding for all concerned. I definitely want to do more of these types of events in 2014, where possible.

One Republic Concert at RWS Hard Rock Hotel

A few weeks back, a couple of work people were arranging for a group to go to the One Republic Concert at Hard Rock Hotel at Resort World Sentosa (on 29th October) In total we had 6 people who were keen to join, and we managed to purchase the tickets.

After work, we headed off after work, and after a bit of a headache to get taxis (as it was just after a massive downpour) we finally arrived at the venue. It was a standing only gig, and the venue was quite interesting, it was sheltered but classed as an outdoor gig.

I am not a big One Republic fan, but knew some of the hit tunes, and was bopping along to the tracks that I recognised. The start was a bit frustrating as there was no warm-up or supporting acts, and the wait was just painful for the band to come on stage, but when they did at about 730pm, the crowd knew that they were in for a great show.

I headed out just after 11pm just before the last couple of tracks played, as I knew it would be hell to get a taxi back. I arrived home around 1145pm, ready for another fun-packed day ahead.

Team Build @ The Aquarium Resorts World Sentosa

Well I am so glad that the world of Team Builds still exists – it is a great way to get to know your team better…and also have a bit of reflection on the year gone by and the expectations on what we can do better for the year ahead.

So we had a 3-day meeting, followed by a trip to the Aquarium at the Resorts World Sentosa – I always wanted to go, so finally managed too.

Aquarium Singapore

Aquarium Singapore

As you can see from the below, it was a great trip, definitely worth a visit when you are in Sentosa…

The best thing about this place is that it is meant to have the largest acrylic aquarium display – according to the Guinness Book of Records – so it was a great opportunity to see it in all its glory.

I am always a bit apprehensive about whether they can pull off something like an aquarium – and still make it feel and look natural, and I must admit, I think they did it well!

…And what happens after a long day at the Aquarium, well a fish dinner with the team. Very delicious and delightful – and more importantly, very filling 🙂
